Assessing listening needs: Beyond correct answers

In this webinar from 20th March 2024 , we explore techniques for assessment in the listening classroom. To help students identify specific areas for improvement in their listening skills, we examine a cycle of goal-setting, problem diagnosis, and follow-up lesson techniques.

Beyond numerical scores on listening tasks and vague advice to practise further, what can we do to help our students set and reach their listening objectives?
In order to be truly responsive to emerging learner needs, we need tools to assess which areas need further attention in our later lessons.

In this webinar we take an assessment for learning approach to listening needs. We will look at a cycle of setting goals, assessing problem areas and setting follow-up tasks to address these areas. We will look at listening from a process perspective and examine often overlooked areas of decoding ability.
