Language and inclusion in a refugee setting



This webinar discusses the role of language in ensuring inclusion in a complex language setting. The webinar was presented by Lucy Maina and Roderick Hicks. The webinar started with an introduction by Sirin Soyoz, the moderator. Sirin then introduced the presenters, Lucy Maina and Roderick Hicks. Roderick started the presentation by outlining the purpose of the webinar. He then presented the context of refugee education in Uganda where Lucy and he had been carrying out research for the British Council. Lucy then presented the research findings around language and exclusion in the refugee impacted schools. Roderick then looked at some of the recommendations that attempted to address the key problems when teaching in classes. Lucy then outlined the implementation of these recommendations and the impact of these recommendations on schools. The webinar ended with a Q&A session.
