Each level consists of eight unrelated comedy vignettes. They are tied together by the use of the same team of actors playing wildly different roles! The material is structured and each episode covers a major structural point. The series features well-known actors: Jim Sweeney, Steve Steen, Cathryn Harrison, Jaye Griffiths, Amanda Root, Judy Loe.
All three videos were written by Peter Viney & Karen Viney and produced by Robert Maidment. Part of the secret of the series was using first-rate TV comedy directors. Bob Spiers chose Jim Sweeney and Steve Steen as a double act.
Grapevine One was directed by Bob Spiers (director of Fawlty Towers, Dad’s Army, Are You Being Served, Absolutely Fabulous, Spice World).
Grapevine Two was directed by Gareth Davies (director of the Dennis Potter TV plays, and one of the first “soap opera stars” in Britain.
Grapevine Three was directed by Tony Garner (director of Auf Weidersehn, Pet and Soldier, Soldier)

In spite of many requests from teachers, Grapevine was never put onto DVD. It was said that no one wanted 4:3 ratio films, ignoring the huge popularity of repeated 4:3 material on television.
